The latest addition to Douala's art scene, the Galerie Carlad, is a breath of fresh air. It's quite paradoxical in the sense that most of the art objects on display here come from the depths of time, and have survived to bear witness to a history that is unfortunately tending more and more towards oblivion. Where other galleries surf on contemporary art trends, Galerie Carlad offers the general public a glimpse into the past, bringing to light the forgotten rites and cultures of a Cameroon in need of a history.
