LES CHUTES D'EKOM NKAM
At the small monument painted blue and pink with a star, on the main road running from Melong to Nkongsamba, the path takes a left. The poorly maintained track runs through fields of coffee and corn. The almost 4 km long track only allows a very low speed, and a seasoned driver in the rainy season. It leads to a clearing where the roar of the falls greets visitors. On arrival, a guide will direct you to the station where entrance fees are issued. You can then begin your descent to the falls, always accompanied by a guide. There are steps leading down to the water, and as you make your way through the jungle, you'll pass huge cheese trees and cross small footbridges over riverbeds.
The waterfall, which served as the backdrop for the film Greystoke starring Christophe Lambert as Tarzan, is very impressive. At the end of the rainy season, the river's flow doubles, allowing the falls to offer a grandiose spectacle. The Ekom Falls, on the Nkam River, plunge 80 m into the heart of dense, lush vegetation. You'll be greeted by the spray that fills the atmosphere of this wild setting. On site, your guide will tell you about the fairies that populate the falls, for whom an animal is sacrificed every year so that they don't sweep visitors away in the torrents... After the visit, a stop at the Millenium is highly recommended to enjoy a good chicken.
