Saint Joseph's Cathedral is one of the country's oldest cathedrals, built by the German Pallottine Mission around 1891. It overlooks the Atlantic, the fishing port and the German bridge over the Kienké River. Historically, the cathedral was also used as a lighthouse, with its bell tower serving as a landmark for ships. It comprises a nave whose arches are supported by sturdy columns. A colonial cannon still stands at the foot of the church, pointing out to the ocean.
