Homemade fries, fillet of beef, mango cheesecake in a restaurant with a terrace in Caen.
Dalio, Dessailly, Cerdan... Wherever you look, you’re likely to see a famous Marcel on the wall! Original and quirky, Café Marcel is all about aesthetics (not looks) and design, just like the Rives de l’Orne district. The tables are beautifully laid, with nothing detracting - quite the contrary - from the content of the plates. The fries are homemade, peeled and cut by hand, served in a small metal basket that could just as easily have been used to prepare them. The beef fillet melts in your mouth, and the mango cheesecake is a delight for the taste buds. Last but not least, tea lovers will be spoilt for choice with the gourmet tea (green, Earl Grey, vanilla, caramel, red fruit, Darjeeling, all in muslin bags) served in a cast-iron Chinese teapot. Weather permitting, enjoy a table on the terrace and - minus the American truck horn - warm up, Marcel! While you’re at Rives de l’Orne, don’t forget to ask for your privilege card at reception, which gives you an hour and a half’s free parking a day. It’s a handy way to (the phrase isn’t Marcel’s but Stephan’s) "have lunch in peace".
