DÉPARTEMENT DU CALVADOS
With the Act of 17 May 2013 on the election of representatives of local and territorial authorities, the General Council took the name of a ministerial Council. This amendment introduced a readjustment of the cantonal map of Calvados (25 cantons in total *). In the March 2015 elections, a combination of one man and one woman was elected in each canton to 50, the number of departmental councillors. The Assembly meets at least once a quarter to define the broad lines of the projects and to vote on the department's annual budget.
* The cantons: Aunay-sur-Odon, Bayeux, Bretteville-the'Proud, Cabourg, Caen (1,2,3,4,5), Condé-sur-Noireau, Guesthouse-sur-Mer, Evrecy, Falaise, Hérouville-Saint-Clair, Honfleur-Deauville, Ifs, Lisieux, Livarot, Mézidon-Canon, Ouistreham, Pont-L'Bishop, Thury-Harcourt, Trévières, Troarn, Into,
competences: construction, maintenance, renovation of colleges, maintenance of departmental roads, modernisation of part of national roads, school and long distance transport, fishing ports, rural development, protection of sensitive natural spaces, social action (RSA allocation, among others), protection of the family, assistance to the elderly and disabled persons, management of the archives and departmental loan libraries. It is also cofinanceur by the departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS) (firefighters). Beyond these compulsory competences, initiatives such as support for economic activity and communal investment, sport, the environment and sustainable development, tourism, twinning and European exchanges, aid to historic monuments, access to broadband and mobile telephony are also the programme.
