Just like many monuments of Caen and elsewhere, the Saint-Sauveur church was built in various stages. The lower parts of the transept and the first floor of the tower were built in the beginning of the eleventh century. While the second floor of the tower, the Romanesque proportions, emerged only at the end of the same century. The nave, late Gothic, and the choir, with Renaissance style, were built much later: in the late fifteenth century.
