GRAN CAFÉ DE PARIS
This Tangier institution on the Place de France opened in the 1930s and has seen Jean Genet and Francis Bacon.
A veritable institution in Tangier! An atmosphere and décor frozen in the past, with leather seats and velvet tablecloths... This café, open since the 1930s, has been the meeting place for celebrities such as Francis Bacon and Jean Genet. A fresco on the central wall depicts the twelve signs of the zodiac on wood panelling, the rest being made up of mirrors. Painters are often to be found here with their easels in full creative mode. The lively Tangier of yesteryear still breathes here.
