PHOENICIAN NECROPOLIS
Despite a very ancient history, this necropolis is the only ancient vestige of Tangier. To be visited on the way to the Hafa café.
Of Punico-Roman times, it is one of the only ancient remains of Tangier. Near the Hafa café and overlooking the bay, the necropolis is a place of rest for the people of Tangiers, when the wind is not blowing too hard... The construction of the 88 tombs, dug in the soft rock, is located between the 4th and 1st centuries BC. Some are grouped in pairs, probably reserved for couples. Above the cliff, in front of the Pasteur Institute, is a forest of eucalyptus trees under which the most interesting part of the necropolis would be buried.
