This is where merchants used to gather on their way to Tangier. The square is still a popular meeting place.

The Grand Socco, the junction between the new city and the old Tangier, is now called Place du 9 Avril. More than two centuries ago, this place was just a wide esplanade where camel and donkey caravans rested. Today, it is the entry point to the medina and the kasbah. The Rif cinema, rehabilitated as a film library in 2007, is the main attraction with its terrace animated by conversations (cinephiles) until late in the evening.

Flash back
Place avec une ambiance d’un autre temps. Bruits, odeurs, couleurs, tres depaysants à l’entree de la magnifique Medina qui vous invite a passer ses porches, et de son Marché couvert coloré. Le cinema Rif est a lui seul un flash back fantastique.

la grand place de Tanger à l'entrée de la médina.Juste après la porte le grand Socco et son activité fourmillante.Passionnant.En poursuivant la rue qui monte on arrive en haut de la ville.
