BAB AL-FAHS DOOR
Main gateway to the south of the medina, giving access to the souk, which is separated from the square by a wall of whitewashed stone blocks
This is the main gateway to the south of the medina, which links the old town to the new town. It opens onto the Place du Grand Socco, known as the Place du 9-Avril. The gate gives access to the souk, which is separated from the square by a wall whose limed stone blocks are arranged in a typically Roman structure. Therefore, it is assumed that this access point to the city is very old. Bab Fahs, which in Arabic means 'hinterland', was the gateway to the interior and the surrounding countryside.
