PLACE DE LA CASBAH
One of the historical squares of the city, bordered by the treasury, the court, the old prison and the old Sultan's palace
The Casbah square is one of the historic squares of the city. It dates from the 18th century and was cleared by Moulay Ismael, one of the most influential king builders of Morocco. It can be accessed through the Bab El-Assa or Bab El-Bahr gates, or through the Tabor square. The square is bordered by the treasury, the court, the former prison and the former palace of the Sultan. In the evening, it becomes a playground for children and an open stage for amateur musicians. It has become a real place of exchange for the people of Tangier and travelers passing through.
