CHAPELLE SAINTE-MARIE D'AFRIQUE
A small church overlooking the Place d'Afrique to the west of the historic enclave, behind an ochre facade lined with pilasters
This small church dominates the Place d'Afrique to the west of the historic enclave. Behind its ochre facade lined with bright white pilasters is a baroque altarpiece of great beauty. In the center stands the Virgin Mary, represented as a pietà, with the dead Christ resting on her lap. The altarpiece respects the canons of the time (17th-18th centuries) with gilding and turned columns. The doors on either side of the altar lead to the sacristy.
