CATHEDRALE DE L'ASCENSION
Cathedral of the Ascension with an original structure in Ceuta, with an imposing black marble entrance in baroque style
Facing the small chapel of St. Mary of Africa, the Cathedral of Ceuta was built on the site of the former Great Mosque of the city. The project was initiated in the 17th century, but completed in the 18th century. The cathedral was then completely remodeled between 1948 and 1961. It retains its original structure with its imposing black marble entrance in baroque style. Among the notable elements, you will see a beautiful Portuguese Virgin of the 15th century.
