PORTE CALIFALE
The Caliphal Gate is the perfect place to admire the ingenious defense system put in place by the Spaniards, featuring an angled moat
The Caliphal Gate is one of the oldest buildings still visible in Ceuta, dating back to the Arab period. When the Spaniards built the royal walls, they took care to preserve this gate that marked the entrance to the city, today the historic enclave. The gate was commissioned in 931 by the Caliph Abderraman III and has beautiful keyhole arches. From the gate, you can walk along the walls and admire the ingenious defense system put in place by the Spaniards, with a bent moat.
