EL KEBIR MOSQUE
One of the emblematic monuments of the city, the great mosque El Kebir of Tetouan, with a minaret of Andalusian style in Morocco
It is one of the emblematic monuments of the city. Renovated in 2013, the great mosque El Kebir of Tetouan dates from 1808. It was built under the orders of Sultan Moulay Slimane. Originally, the mosque was located near the old Jewish quarter, before being moved to the medina. Its minaret is characteristic of the Andalusian style in Morocco. Inside, there is a large patio, a mihrab decorated with zelliges, and a fountain. The prayer room is topped by arches and a wooden ceiling. For a long time, theology courses were given there.
