LUKASH MEDERSA
Building of a Koranic school, and now a museum dedicated to the religious heritage and traditional teaching, located in Tetouan.
Behind the green shutters and the high crenellated wall of this building is a Koranic school. Wanted by Sultan Mohamed Ben Abdallah and the caïd Omar Loukach, it dates back to 1758. It was intended to welcome students from the surrounding area and to offer them a theological education. The boarding school closed its doors to students in 1980. After 300 years of good and loyal service, the learning of Arabic and the Koran has been silenced. The medersa became a museum dedicated to religious heritage and traditional teaching, inaugurated in 2011 by King Mohamed VI.
