ZAWIYA SIDI ALI BARAKA
Ancient Sufi brotherhood with a mausoleum, topped by a rectangular brick minaret and decorated with glazed tiles
This zawiya, an ancient Sufi brotherhood, houses the mausoleum of the famous scholar and writer Sidi Ali Baraka. It dates from the beginning of the 18th century and is distinguished by its very careful decorations embellishing the main entrance. The large poly-lobed arch in the form of a pointed horseshoe is representative of the Meknes court style. Two short pilasters decorated with zellij (small tiles) frame the door. The zawiya is surmounted by a rectangular brick minaret that is also decorated with glazed tiles forming pretty, colourful geometric patterns.
