ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
Archaeological museum in Tetouan, with Islamic tombstones, or from Lixus, with mosaics
This building was built in 1939 by the Spaniards and served directly as a museum. Islamic tombstones and mosaics as large as frescoes from Lixus can be seen here. The Lixus room is very interesting, with three fine plaster copies of superb sculptures that have since been transferred to the Archaeological Museum in Rabat, mosaics and interesting coins. Note in this room, the tear glasses, in which the Romans kept the tears spilled during funerals that were buried with the deceased.
