AL-MOKADDEM STREET
Rue Al-Mokaddem is one of the most popular shopping streets in Tetouan's old town, with stalls and small shops
Named after a Tetuan warrior leader, Al-Mokaddem Abu al-Abass Ahmed Ibn Aïssa Naqsis, this street, which links Souk el-Foqui Square to Gherssa el-Kebira Square, was opened in the 18th century. Its buildings, its variations in light, the whiteness of its facades and the paving on the ground make this street and its ramifications a very specific part of Tetouan's urban planning. It is also one of the most commercial streets of the old city, lined with stalls full of articles and small shops selling shoes, clothes or souvenirs.
