Historical fortress dominating the sea and being an emblematic monument of Larache.
This old fortress dominates the sea and is an emblematic monument of Larache. It was built in 1578 by the Portuguese prisoners who lost the battle of the Three Kings, on the orders of Sultan Moulay Ahmad al Mansour El Dahabi. The fortress is only held up by the concrete reinforcements inside. Therefore, it cannot be visited. But it evokes a period in history when Europeans were struggling to take over North Africa. It takes its name from the migratory birds that built their nests there for the winter.
