ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
A 2-hall museum featuring a fine collection of archaeological artefacts from various periods and other ancient objects
Located in a kind of Merinid fortress dating from 1258, the museum exhibits on two rooms a beautiful collection of archaeological pieces found for the majority on the ancient site of Lixus. The pieces date back to the Phoenician, Carthaginian, Mauritanian, Roman and Islamic eras. There are two superb bronze sculptures, Hercules and Antaeus, as well as Theseus and the Minotaur, numerous coins, pottery and red ceramic utensils, a drinking vessel dating from the 13th century, and other ancient objects.
