KASBAH SKALA
A remarkable artillery platform overlooking the ocean and offering a superb view of Essaouira.
This large 200 m long artillery platform, with crenellated walls, dominates the ocean and offers a superb view. The bronze cannons date from the end of the 18th century and were taken from the Spaniards. The most beautiful view is the one obtained by climbing on the northern bastion of the Skala: the rocky islets of the seven Purpuraires stretch as far as the eye can see. On the way down, below the Skala, nicknamed the "Moroccan Saint-Malo", you can visit the marquetry workshops where most of the pieces sold in the souks of the medina are made.
