REMARKS
Remarkable ramparts, with Arab and French influences, offering a unique panorama in Essaouira.
The ochre colour of the ramparts of Essaouira gives this city the air of a Breton city sheltering some den of privateers. Two styles of ramparts coexist, representing Arab and French influences. The Cherifian-style ramparts, looking inland, are made of stone coated with ochre plaster and flanked by square battlements and a narrow parapet walk; those of the European type, overlooking the ocean, are built without plaster and are provided with a parapet walk and bevelled battlements. Everywhere a unique panorama is offered to walkers.
