REMARKS
Remarkable ramparts, with Arab and French influences, offering a unique panorama in Essaouira.
The ochre colour of the ramparts of Essaouira gives this city the air of a Breton city sheltering some den of privateers. Two styles of ramparts coexist, representing Arab and French influences. The Cherifian-style ramparts, looking inland, are made of stone coated with ochre plaster and flanked by square battlements and a narrow parapet walk; those of the European type, overlooking the ocean, are built without plaster and are provided with a parapet walk and bevelled battlements. Everywhere a unique panorama is offered to walkers.

The walls of this fortress in Vauban (it is a disciple of Vauban, Cornut which designed a part) make more than 200 metres long and cannons on place still seem to aim some hypothetical invaders! It is very pleasant to stroll, especially as the city and sea views are worth the trip!
