ATLAS FILM STUDIOS
Atlas film studios, with a "Caesar Palace" or Tibetan temple, open to the public outside filming hours
The Atlas film studios have been home to many stars and successful films, including Alain Chabat's Asterix and Obelix Mission Cleopatra, most of whose sets are still on site. But also scenes from Ben-Hur, Game of Thrones, Les Joyaux du Nil, starring Michael Douglas, Gladiator with Russel Crowe and Babel, starring Brad Pitt. It's up to you to make the scenery your own, recalling scenes from your favorite films. Allow at least half a day. Since the 1960s and the filming of Lawrence of Arabia, Ouarzazate has been a favorite location for film directors. Since then, cinema has had a considerable influence on the region's economy. Nearly 100,000 people in the region earn their living directly or indirectly from the film industry. With its desert-like, lunar landscapes and year-round sunshine, the region is an ideal location for this activity. Located 3 km west of Ouarzazate, you'll recognize the studios by the huge pharaohs standing in front of the entrance. Created in 1983 in the middle of the desert, Atlas Corporation Studios is Morocco's first film studio, covering an area of 30 hectares. The studios are open to the public, and you can enter the "Caesar Palace" or the Tibetan temple of Scorsese's film Kundun with complete freedom. A 45-strong team is on hand to maintain the studios. Some studios are closed to visitors during filming periods.
