Delhi's largest Sikh temple, built in the century in white marble, topped by a golden dome and embellished by a vast pool.

It is the largest Sikh temple in Delhi and is well worth a visit. All white marble, topped by a golden dome and decorated with a vast basin for the ablutions of the faithful, it was built in the 18th century in memory of the visit of the eighth Guru Harkrishan in 1664. At the entrance to the shrine, shops offer the traditional articles of piety: copies of the Granth Sahib, the holy book of Sikhism, daggers, swords, bracelets (obligatory attributes of the faithful) and CDs of religious songs. Do not hesitate to contact the reception where you will be given a thousand explanations on the religion founded by Guru Nanak in the 15th century. Stop for a moment in the large prayer room to listen to the hymns of the faithful, accompanied by the portable harmonium and tabla. Afterwards, visit the adjoining museum, which is free of charge. It presents the history of the Sikhs through paintings of little value, but with a bloody realism. Finally, don't miss the refectory that is specific to all Sikh temples, called langar. The religion imposes free meals and asylum. Here, 50,000 meals are served every day. The faithful sit on the floor in rows, and volunteers serve them dal and chapati. This communal meal symbolizes the unity of the community and equality among beings. On your way out you can admire the pool, blessed by the eighth Guru. The water seems to have healed people suffering from pox or cholera. Still active, it continues to be venerated by the faithful.
