LADAKH BUDDHA VIHARA
Multicolored Tibetan monastery with a Buddha statue covered in saffron- and orange-colored cloth and a prayer wheel.
This charming multicoloured Tibetan monastery was built on the initiative of the Buddhist community of Ladakh and inaugurated by Nehru in 1963. After the immense yellow porch, a beautiful statue of Buddha stands enthroned covered with saffron and orange-coloured cloth. On the walls, paintings illustrate the life of the master. At the top of the turrets that frame the porch is a prayer wheel. Traditionally, these mills contain mantras and rotate freely around an axis. The monk turns them "freeing" the mantras.
