INDIA GATE
Indian replica of the Arc de Triomphe, 42 meters high, dedicated to the Indian soldiers who died in the Great War.
The Indian replica of the Arc de Triomphe is 42 meters high. It was designed by Luytens, the architect in charge of drawing the plans of the new capital wanted by the British and completed in 1921. It pays tribute to the 90,000 Indian soldiers who died during the First World War. It also honors the victims of the Anglo-Afghan war of 1919. In the center of the monument, the Indian government maintains the flame of the Eternal Soldier, Amar Jawan, in 1971. The monument attracts mostly Indian tourists.
