PAHAR GANJ AND NEW DELHI TRAIN STATION
Visit the district with its sights, picturesque bazaars and shrines, and New Delhi railway station with its crowds on the platform.
This lively district conceals many curiosities, picturesque bazaars, small sanctuaries and temples, fruit and vegetable markets.
The New Delhi train station alone is worth the detour. Admire the ballet of yellow and black taxis and auto rickshaws pouring out of the passengers immediately assaulted by porters in characteristic red shirts. A word of advice, attend at least once at the departure of a mainline train. Crowds crowd the platform where tons of luggage piles up before being shipped into the compartments. Unforgettable spectacle.
Go to Panahkuia Road, at the top left of Main Bazaar (opposite the train station). It houses the headquarters of the Ramakrishna mission in Delhi. The great Bengali mystic of the late 19th century has many followers all over India. The ashram's park and meditation room offer an opportunity to recharge one's batteries, away from the hustle and bustle of the neighbourhood, and to immerse oneself in a spiritual atmosphere. There is a library and a small museum on site.
As you walk through Main Bazaar and the small streets of the Paharganj district, you will come across many tourists, some of whom are a bit perched. They are legion among those who travel with their backpack to land here before embarking on a tour of India or before boarding the return flight. The district is home to many shopkeepers selling all kinds of souvenirs. Perfect if you have small gifts to bring back. Get ready to negotiate.
