In mid-January, Hindus celebrate the sun's ascent from the equator to the Tropic of Cancer. The days grow longer, the cold winter days fade away. On this occasion, children climb on the roofs of houses and fly kites. They engage in epic battles in the sky, which consist of standing in the path of the opponent's kite and trying to cut its string. The festival is particularly celebrated in Jaipur.
