THE HAVELIS OF MANDAWA
A group of havelis to visit, including the 200-year-old Gulab Kai Ladiya, and the Laxmi Narayan Ladiya, with its beautiful frescoes
The discovery of the havelis of Mandawa requires at least half a day. The owners do not live in the havelis and have left the care of their home to a local family, who in return pay neither rent nor charges. The windows allowed the women, who could not go out, to see what was going on outside. The two hundred year old Gulab Kai Ladiya Haveli and the beautifully frescoed Laxmi Narayan Ladiya Haveli are worth a visit. The painted elephants at each end of the entrance door are a symbol of welcome.
