OHRM PALACE
Palace, one of the finest examples of Rajput architecture, overlooking the city, combining 3 palaces from the and centuries
Bundi Palace is considered one of the finest examples of Rajput architecture. Overlooking the city, this imposing edifice, parts of which are in danger of collapsing, actually comprises three palaces built in the 17th and 18th centuries. Its decrepit atmosphere is wildly romantic, and you soon begin to dream of the splendid life that must have been lived here in its heyday. It's a shame, however, that despite the high price, the owner doesn't take better care of it. But the visit is well worth it.
You first enter the Ratan Daulat through the imposing Elephant Gate. Built by Maharao Ratan Singh, a vassal of the Mughal Empire, it houses a magnificent white marble throne on the first floor. Next up is the Chatra Mahal, built by Maharao Shastrusal Singh. It features beautiful murals in shades of turquoise, green, blue and yellow. Note the pillars each supported by four elephants in the Hathiya Sal and the ivory-encrusted wooden doors.
Finally, head for the Chitrashala, built by Rao Umed Singh in the 18th century. Exiting through the Elephant Gate, take the ascent towards the fort. The entrance is on the left. The flower-filled gardens dominate the city and offer a fine view. Inside the palace are magnificent, well-preserved paintings depicting the Ragmala and Raslila (the love story between Radha and Krishna). Krishna, always depicted in blue, is easily recognizable. And admission is free!
