CRYSTAL GALLERY
Unique collection of crystal pieces located in a gallery overlooking the durbar hall inside the Fateh Prakash Hotel
The Crystal Gallery is a unique collection of crystal pieces commissioned by Maharana Sajjan Singh in the 19th century. It is located in the gallery overlooking the durbar hall inside the Fateh Prakash Hotel. If you go there from the north gate of the City Palace complex, you will have to pay a passage fee of Rs 30 in addition to your entrance ticket. Enter the hotel and follow the signs to the durbar hall, one of the largest in India. Along the walls, you can admire portraits of all the maharanas of Udaipur and some pictures of the current ruling family. The huge crystal chandeliers are among the largest and heaviest in the country as well. Upstairs, in the galleries surrounding the durbar hall, an amazing collection of crystal pieces awaits you. Maharana Sajjan Singh had commissioned a set of furniture, glasses and chandeliers from an English glassmaker in 1877. He died before delivery and the items remained in their boxes for over a hundred years. When this amazing collection was rediscovered, the maharana decided to exhibit them. The most amazing piece is perhaps the crystal bed, but the tables and consoles with their finely crafted legs are also worth a look. Unfortunately, photos inside the Crystal Gallery are forbidden and the price is still very high considering the interest of the visit.
