MAHAMANDIR TEMPLE
Temple dedicated to Shiva, which today houses a school with a hall decorated with 84 pillars and paintings of hatha yoga positions
The Mahamandir, which literally means the "Great Temple", was built in the 19th century to the glory of Shiva. A school is now located in the temple compound. If you come at recess time, the school children will insist on having their picture taken in front of the sanctuary. This one is especially remarkable for its hall decorated with 84 pillars and for its paintings of which some evoke Asana (positions of hatha yoga). According to the legend, it is Lord Shiva himself who taught them to the ascetics of the Himalayas.
