HARIHARA TEMPLES
Complex of several small shrines dedicated to Harihara, located behind the Mahavira temple, in the middle of a wasteland
Several small sanctuaries rise up behind the Mahavira temple, in the middle of a wasteland. Dedicated to Harihara (synthesis of Vishnu and Shiva), they follow the classical plan of a hall(mandapa) preceding a sanctuary(gharbagriya) topped by a tower (sikhara). These sanctuaries were built in the 8th and 9th centuries, and only two of them are still in very good condition. The interior rooms are richly ornamented, and this small ensemble constitutes an extremely valuable religious heritage for the village of Osyan.
