NATHMAL KI HAVELI
Haveli for Mohata Nathmal, with a facade decorated with repetitive floral or geometric motifs typical of Islamic art.
The construction of this haveli was commissioned in the 19th century by the Maharawal Beri Sal for his Prime Minister, Mohata Nathmal. The meticulousness of the carvings makes it one of the most beautiful in the city. The stone work was entrusted to members of the Silawat community (Muslim sculptors). They framed the entrance door with two life-size elephants. The facade is decorated with repetitive floral and geometric motifs typical of Islamic art. Inside, the walls and columns are decorated with animal and plant figures and everyday objects.
