This fair attracts mostly the people of Bikaner district to pay homage to the sage Kapil who is said to have stopped here to meditate for the welfare of mankind. The festival is held at the time of the full moon in the month of Kartik, late November or early December. In the evening, the participants light candles and float them on the lake, creating a magical scene. The Kolayat fair is also a gathering of livestock breeders, who come to sell buffaloes, camels, horses, sheep and goats. Prizes are awarded to the best breeders.
