Mosques in Ahmedabad, including Sultan Ahmed Shah Mosque, Sidi Saiyyed Mosque, Sidi Bashir Mosque, Jami Masjid Mosque and Rani Sipri Mosque.
Mosque of Sultan Ahmed Shah. Built in 1414, it is the oldest of the city. It was built for the nobles of the city. Do not miss the beautiful carved ceiling. It is located near the Bhadra fort.
Sidi Saiyyed Mosque, at the end of Relief Road, just opposite the House of MG. This small mosque, built in 1573, is one of the most famous in the city. The ten openwork windows are delicate marble lacework. Each window represents the intertwined branches of a tree.
Sidi Bashir Mosque built in 1452 is one of the most picturesque with its two vibrating minarets. In case of earthquake, if one tower moves, the second one starts to vibrate. It is located next to Sarangpur Gate.
Jami Masjid, built in 1423 by Ahmed Shah on the ruins of Hindu and Jain temples is located on Gandhi Road. The inner courtyard, equipped with a basin for ablutions, is very spacious. You will also see the two minarets partially damaged by the earthquakes of 1819 and 1957, but also by the British who dismantled them to understand by what phenomenon these two minarets entered in resonance and swayed (shaking minarets). The mosque is an interesting example of Hindu-Jain architectural influence with its elaborate domes, bell motifs on the columns and representations of the tree of life on the façade. The prayer hall has 260 pillars that support the 15 main domes.
Rani Sipri Mosque near Astodia Gate, it is known for its refinement.
