DADA HARI NI VAV
Octagonal shaft dating from the century, sinking through five levels of galleries and sculpted columns before reaching the shafts at the bottom.
Ahmedabad has many bâoli (stepped wells), the most notable being Dada Hari Vav (or Dai Halima Vav). Built at the end of the 15th century, this octagonal well goes down through five levels of galleries and carved columns before reaching the two wells at the bottom. They are unfortunately often dry nowadays, but the grandeur of this work deserves a visit. Behind the well, the Dai Halima mosque built in the 16th century houses the mausoleum of the midwife of the royal family, Halima, and beautiful jali (openwork windows).
