A palace with a tower and two bridges, home to period crafts and a museum.
Recently renovated, this large palace, located in the middle of a lake surrounded by a shaded promenade, is now a protected monument. It consists of a tower and two bridges. It was built during the reign of Jam Ranmalsinghi in the second half of the 19th century. The wooden carvings, the columns and doors of the pavilion, the murals are remarkable handicrafts typical of that period. The palace houses a museum.
In the entrance hall , you will notice 18th century carved stones from Jamnagar with floral decorations, elephants, dancers and animals. In the pavilion, under the arcades, you will see sculptures of Vishnu from the 9th and 10th centuries from Ghumali. As well as a very beautiful marble Jain sculpture from Vasai dating from 1257.
But also, memorials (14th and 18th centuries) and a large sculpture of the goddess Laxmi from Bhanagol (10th century). Inside the building, several display cases house a collection of miniatures, ancient embroideries from different regions of Gujarat, and even bronzes and tableware from Europe. One room displays old photos of the city and skeletons of cetaceans. The most beautiful collection is the painted portraits of the kings of the region, in a room with a painted wooden ceiling and fine carvings of wood. Of note is the ingenious well at the entrance to this small room and the lovely carved wooden porch.
