SAINT JOHN'S CHURCH
Anglican church with mausoleum of Jacob Charnock, founder of Calcutta, and obelisk commemorating the Black Hole.
Completed in 1787, this Anglican church is an important monument of the British Raj. If you are curious enough to push the door open, you will discover the mausoleum of Jacob Charnock, the founder of Calcutta who died in 1693, and the obelisk commemorating the Black Hole. Visit St. John's Church on Friday or Saturday between 1:30 and 4:00 p.m. to hear Johnny play the organ. He's probably the real focus of this church... You'll recognize him by his peroxide hair and, beyond his talent, he's a fun-loving, boastful character!
