ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS
Heterogeneous Academy of Fine Arts exhibiting drawings by Desmond Doig, paintings, hangings, saris and old Benares silks.
Very heterogeneous but nevertheless fascinating. In the first room, Desmond Doig's nostalgic drawings of India and Calcutta are on display. Further on, paintings and sculptures by contemporary Bengali artists are displayed next to rare miniatures from the Mughal (17th century) and Persian (17th century) schools. There is also a beautiful series of watercolors from Rajasthan. Draperies, saris, old silks from Benares and typical clothes from various regions of India complete this pleasant museum. And of course there are some paintings and manuscripts by Tagore.
