DARJEELING HIMALAYAN TOY TRAIN
This small steam train climbs between New Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling via Siliguri, Kurseong and Ghoom, on 61 cm wide rails. The British built it between 1879 and 1881, in order to escape the great heat of the plains. Unesco declared it a world heritage site in 1999. This train is not luxurious and offers few services, but its serpentine route and its toy-like appearance are enchanting. The journey is extremely long (more than 8 hours). Not recommended for the impatient...
To enjoy this little wonder without going to New Jalpaiguri, the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway offers a "Joy Ride": a ride of more than 2 hours to Ghoom via Kurseong and Batasia Loop, and back to Darjeeling. The train is powered by either a steam or diesel locomotive. There are departures at different times of the day (schedules often vary and trains are regularly cancelled, check the daily schedule at the station). Not to be missed!

Il existe 2 formules une avec machine à vapeur l autre avec locomotive diesel plus économique. Ce tour est agréable et évite un trajet trop long.
