ALOOBARI MONASTERY
Buddhist monastery dating from 1914, dedicated to world peace, with statues of Buddha and Padmasambhava and frescoes.
The Mag-Dhog Yolmowa gompa is a beautiful Buddhist monastery dating from 1914. Located in Aloobari, from where its nickname comes, only 3 kilometers from Darjeeling on Tenzing Norgay Road, it is dedicated to world peace. The shrine houses beautiful statues of Buddha and Padmasambhava and colorful murals. Unfortunately the monastery has suffered from the ravages of time and a renovation would be necessary. On site you can find traditional handicrafts from Tibet and Sikkim. Do not hesitate to make a small tour in the village nearby...
