PEMAYANGTSE MONASTERY
Buddhist monastery, one of the oldest, with a beautiful prayer hall dedicated to Padamasambhava and a collection of statues
This early 18th century Buddhist monastery is one of the oldest in Sikkim. Beautifully painted, it houses a superb prayer hall dedicated to Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) and an interesting collection of statues of Buddha and Padmasambhava. One can also admire a wooden model of the Guru Rinpoche's house, the Sanghthokpalri. This complex jewel was built in five years by Dungzin Rinpoche. The prayers of the monks living around the monastery give the place a mystical dimension. From here, the view of the mountains is sublime.
