LOHAGARH FORT
Small fortified town built on an artificial islet surrounded by a moat that withstood the assaults of the Mughal and British armies
The "Iron Fortress" was built in the 18th century by Maharaja Suraj Mal on an artificial island surrounded by a moat. It resisted victoriously to the assaults of the Mughal and British armies. It is a small walled city with a thick wall and two gates. At present, its quiet streets let us see 3 old palaces: Kothi Khas, Mahal Khas and Kishori Mahal. Only the one that houses the museum can be visited. You will notice the two towers, Jawahar Burj and Fateh Burj which commemorate the victories over the Moghuls and the English.
