SRI NEELKANTH MAHADEVA TEMPLE
Temple dedicated to Shiva, situated at an altitude of 1,330 m, one of the holiest in India and featuring a colourful Dravidian-style gopuram
Located at 1,330 meters above sea level, this temple dedicated to Shiva is one of the most sacred in India. During the great churning of the ocean to extract the nectar of immortality, a powerful poison first rose to the surface of the water. To save the threatened humanity, Shiva drank the entire venom to Neelkantha Mahadeva and immediately his throat turned blue, followed quickly by the rest of his body. The colorful gopuram of the temple is Dravidian in style.
