STOK PALACE MUSEUM
Museum in the last palace of the kings of Ladakh, with five different rooms and a collection of objects and jewelry.
The last palace of the kings of Ladakh is today one of the most formidable museums of the region. The five rooms open to the public are all different. The former royal family of Ladakh, deposed in 1846, now divides its life between Manali and Stok Palace. On the first floor of the palace, a museum houses a collection of objects and jewelry belonging to the royal family as well as a small monastery.
A guide takes care of the visit but his English and information are approximate. Thanks to a vast collection - antique jewels, turquoise, tea sets, furniture, weapons, mystical masks, thangkas, etc . - visitors are immersed in the world of the kings. A room traces the history of the royal family and its great encounters (Gandhi, Nehru...) through black and white photos. There is also a small cafeteria with a beautiful view on the Indus valley.
You can also stay in the palace, part of which has been transformed into a boutique hotel. The 6 suites are sumptuous and compete in elegance. The Queen's suite is absolutely sublime, with its ancient walls, preserved woodwork, and furniture from another age. Travelers can also enjoy the Chulli Bagh, a beautiful garden with apricot, walnut and weeping willow trees. A place is also dedicated to meditation and introspection, the Zimchag cottage. A unique experience to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of another era! Information is available on the website, rates vary according to the season and the type of room.
