CHURCH OF ST JOHN THE EVANGELIST
Afghan church made of stone with a limestone spire, built in memory of all those who have fallen victim to disease, etc.
The Afghan Church, as it is known, is an imposing building built of lava stone with a limestone spire that can be spotted from afar. This church, consecrated in 1958 but whose spire was completed in 1865, was built in memory of all those who fell by disease and by the sword in the British conquest of Afghanistan. It has beautiful stained glass windows but these have suffered badly from the ravages of time and are in urgent need of renovation.
