PATALESHWAR CAVE TEMPLE
Small basalt cave-temple, cut into the rock in the century and dedicated to Lord Pataleshwar, with an altar dedicated to Shiva
Cut into the rock in the 8th century, this small basalt cave-temple is still in use, although its construction was never completed. It is dedicated to Lord Pataleshwar, the god of the underworld, and the altar is dedicated to Shiva. In front of the entrance to the shrine, a nandi (sacred ox) is housed under a circular mandapa, supported by massive square pillars. The temple is surrounded by a garden, where a large banyan tree is enthroned, which is conducive to strolling. Next to it is the Jungli Maharaj Mandir, a Hindu temple worth a visit.
